My Story

My story

Hello! My name is Cate Perrigo. The first time I was introduced to calligraphy was in 8th grade. There was a copperplate calligraphy elective at my school, and my mom persuaded me to take it. Ever since that class, I was hooked. That elective opened my eyes to what calligraphy really was. For one thing, it takes time! I never really appreciated how long it took to write a single letter. I also realized that it was difficult. It’s really hard to make all of the letters uniform and beautiful. In 9th grade, I took a Gothicized Italic calligraphy class and learned Uncial. I started to tell people about my calligraphy, and I addressed envelopes for two weddings over the summer.

I love calligraphy because it’s beautiful. I love challenging myself to make each letter perfect. Calligraphy has taught me diligence and the importance of practice. After that first elective, my calligraphy was far from perfect! I’ve improved a lot since then, although I still have a long way to go. My hope is that my calligraphy will inspire you to make something beautiful and show you that if you slow down and take some extra time, whatever you make will be that much more worthwhile.

What I Offer:

I offer envelopes, quotes, place cards, and custom pieces. I have done envelopes for multiple weddings, but I can do them for birthdays or any other special occasion. For the quote pieces, I have a couple ready-made, but you can contact me and request a quote and the script that you like. For the place cards, simply tell me the names of the people who will be there, and I will write their name in the script of your choice on a place card. I also offer custom pieces. Basically, if you want calligraphy done for something unique, feel free to contact me and I will see if I can do it!
